Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP)

Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP)

The Santa Rita Union School District, is excited to offer the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP), an initiative designed to provide students with enriching learning experiences beyond the traditional school day. ELOP offers a variety of programs that support academic growth, social development, and overall well-being, helping to create well-rounded students ready to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.

“Expanded learning” means before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. It is the intent of the Legislature that expanded learning programs are pupil-centered, results driven, include community partners, and complement, but do not replicate, learning activities in the regular schoolday and school year. (EC Section 8482.a[a])

We encourage all families to take advantage of the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program at SRUSD.

By providing your child with additional learning time, new experiences, and opportunities for personal growth, parents/guardians are helping their child succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

We look forward to working together to support your child’s journey to success!

Expanded Learning Opportunities Program

Dr. Madonna Catiis

Coordinator for Expanded Learning

  • The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) is a state-funded initiative, developed by the California Department of Education (CDE), that provides additional learning time and support for students through after-school, intersession, and summer programs. ELOP is designed to complement the regular school curriculum by offering enrichment opportunities that help students thrive in all areas of their development.

  • The California Department of Education recognizes that many students need extra time and opportunities to fully engage in their learning. The rationale behind the ELOP initiative is to close achievement gaps and provide equitable learning experiences for all students, particularly those who may face barriers to academic success. By extending learning beyond the classroom and traditional school hours, ELOP gives students access to high-quality meaningful activities while fostering personal growth and well-being.

The CDE aims to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. ELOP is an essential part of that effort, offering programs that support a well-rounded education and help students develop the skills they need for future success

  • At the Santa Rita Union School District, we are committed to supporting the whole child, ensuring that students are not only successful academically but also socially and emotionally. The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program aligns with our district’s mission by:

    • Offering Diverse Enrichment Opportunities: ELOP includes a range of programs, such as arts, sports, STEM activities, and leadership opportunities, that allow students to explore their interests and discover new passions.
    • Supporting Student Well-Being: By offering a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment outside of regular school hours, ELOP helps ensure that students have the support they need to succeed.
    • Promoting Social and Emotional Development: Through a variety of collaborative activities, ELOP encourages students to build strong relationships with their peers and develop important life skills like problem-solving, communication, and resilience.
    • Enhancing Academic Support: ELOP provides additional time for homework help, helping students stay on track with their learning goals.
  • Participating in the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program offers numerous benefits for your child, including:

    • Access to Fun, Hands-on Learning Activities: ELOP programs are designed to make learning exciting and engaging.
    • Social and Emotional Growth: Students have the opportunity to work in teams, make new friends, and develop the skills needed to navigate challenges both in and out of school.
    • Increased Academic Support and Confidence: ELOP helps students who may need extra help with schoolwork, giving them the resources to succeed.
