The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) is a state-funded initiative, developed by the California Department of Education (CDE), that provides additional learning time and support for students through after-school, intersession, and summer programs. ELOP is designed to complement the regular school curriculum by offering enrichment opportunities that help students thrive in all areas of their development.
The California Department of Education recognizes that many students need extra time and opportunities to fully engage in their learning. The rationale behind the ELOP initiative is to close achievement gaps and provide equitable learning experiences for all students, particularly those who may face barriers to academic success. By extending learning beyond the classroom and traditional school hours, ELOP gives students access to high-quality meaningful activities while fostering personal growth and well-being.
The CDE aims to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. ELOP is an essential part of that effort, offering programs that support a well-rounded education and help students develop the skills they need for future success
At the Santa Rita Union School District, we are committed to supporting the whole child, ensuring that students are not only successful academically but also socially and emotionally. The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program aligns with our district’s mission by:
